The non-dairy milk I use the most often is probably almond milk. It’s easy to find in stores and quite affordable. However, keep in mind that homemade nut and seed milk are always superior. Most of us try to avoid making non-dairy milk because we don’t want to be straining the pulp through cheesecloth. It’s time-consuming and labor-intensive. Fortunately, there are alternatives that don’t require straining. In this post, I share how I make my favorite non-dairy kinds of milk the easy way.
Hemp Milk
Hemp Seeds Benefits
Hemp milk is filling and nutritious. Many consider hemp seeds to be a superfood.
Here are just a few of their benefits:
- Source of protein: Hemp seeds contain almost as much protein as soybeans, and they provide all nine essential amino acids.
- Source of healthy fats: With Keto being all the rage, you have probably heard about how important good fats are for your health. Fats provide food for your brain and help you feel satiated throughout the day.
- Source of fiber: Fiber consumption reduces your risk of cancer and promotes gut health.
Hemp Milk Recipe
Hemp milk is so easy to make! It requires no advance preparation at all. The resulting milk is creamy and satisfying.
Hemp Milk Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Hemp seeds
- 3 1/2 cup Water
Instructions
- Blend in a high powered blender using the smoothie setting or until nice and creamy.
Cashew Milk
Cashew milk is also very creamy and nutritious.
Cashew Benefits
Cashews are often used in vegan recipes to mimic creamy cheesy ingredients. They are higher in carbohydrate and lower in fiber than other nuts, but have many health benefits:
- Source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants: These include vitamins E, K and B-6. Moreover, they include minerals like copper, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and selenium.
- Eating nuts lowers your risk of cardiovascular disease: They reduce your cholesterol levels and your blood pressure.
- Nuts optimize blood health: The copper and iron in cashews help the body form and use red blood cells.
Cashew milk recipe
Most cashew milk recipes require you to soak your cashews for a few hours. I have made cashew milk from cashews that were soaked and that were not soaked. If you have a high powered blender, it doesn’t make a difference at all.
Cashew Milk
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Raw cashews
- 3 cups Water
Instructions
- Blend in a high powered blender using the smoothie setting or until nice and creamy.
Sunflower Seed Milk
Sunflower seed milk is better used as a base for smoothies and other recipes rather than to add to your granola recipes for example. The flavor can be strong. However, it is highly nutritious. Moreover, it is a great nut-free option.
Sunflower Seeds Benefits
Nuts and seeds have many health benefits. Here’s how sunflower seeds can improve your health:
- They are rich in healthy fats.
- They provide beneficial plant compounds, including phenolic acids and flavonoids which also function as antioxidants.
- They are a source of vitamin E and selenium, which are vital to the health of our immune system.
- Help lower blood pressure and inflammation.

I love using coconut milk too, but I buy it because I find it’s too much work to make.
